A peaceful design getaway in Northern Portugal, perfect for escaping the summer heat.

Just a short drive from Braga's historic centre, The Lince Braga gives you a fresh take on one of Northern Portugal's oldest cities. Nestled in the rolling hills of Falperra, this 77-room hotel focuses less on flashy statements and more on thoughtful design, relaxed luxury, and giving you a space to unwind.

The design and interiors

From the outside, the architecture is understated, giving little indication of the contemporary interiors waiting beyond its doors. Inside, however, the atmosphere shifts. Soft neutral tones, natural materials and clean architectural lines create an environment designed to soothe rather than overwhelm. Every space feels intentional, as we enter the lobby we felt an opportunity to pause, sit in the lush leather seats and appreciate the stillness that defines this corner of Northern Portugal.

After check-in, one of the first things that caught my attention was the hotel's library. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves line the walls, filled with beautifully curated coffee table books covering art, design, architecture and photography. It's one of those quietly luxurious spaces where silence becomes part of the experience, inviting guests to settle into an armchair and lose themselves in pages of creative inspiration. In an age of constant notifications, it feels refreshingly analogue.

Our room

The minimalist, yet sleek, design continues throughout the guest rooms. Chic without feeling cold, each room embraces simplicity through a muted colour palette, crisp white linens and contemporary furnishings.

There is very little visual clutter, allowing the surrounding landscape to become part of the room itself. Our window frames uninterrupted views of pine trees and the rolling hills beyond, reinforcing the connection between the interiors and nature outside.

Yet it is the outdoor pool that truly steals the show.

The nature

Perched above the surrounding landscape, the pool overlooks layers of green mountains, towering pine trees and the peaceful countryside beyond. The clean geometry of the pool contrasts beautifully with the organic landscape, creating one of the most memorable spaces in the hotel.

Whether swimming a few leisurely lengths or simply sitting beside the water with a morning coffee, the panoramic views encourage you to slow down and absorb the remarkable natural setting.

The spa and wellness

The emphasis on wellbeing continues inside the spa, where an indoor pool, sauna and steam room provide a welcome sanctuary after a day of exploring. During our stay, we enjoyed a 60-minute massage that perfectly reflected the hotel's philosophy of relaxation. Expertly delivered and deeply restorative, it was the ideal way to unwind before returning to the tranquillity of the surrounding hills.

Nature plays a defining role in the experience at The Lince Braga. Surrounded by scenic forest trails and hiking routes, the hotel is perfectly positioned for guests wanting to explore the landscapes of Northern Portugal. Morning walks through the nearby woodland offer a peaceful contrast to the city's historic streets, making it easy to balance culture with time outdoors.

Exploring Braga, Portugal

Portugal's oldest city is rich in architectural landmarks, charming cafés and cultural attractions. One highlight is Theatro Circo, one of the country's most beautiful historic theatres, which hosts an impressive programme of concerts, theatre productions, dance performances and live music throughout the year.

Our lasting impression

What makes The Lince Braga memorable isn't extravagant luxury or dramatic architecture. Instead, it lies in the carefully considered details: the silence of a library filled with beautiful books, interiors that embrace restraint, expansive mountain views and spaces designed to reconnect guests with nature. It's a hotel where contemporary design quietly complements its surroundings rather than competing with them.

Even after just one night, it left a lasting impression. For travellers seeking a design-led escape in Northern Portugal, where minimalist interiors meet rolling hills, forest trails and restorative wellness experiences, The Lince Braga offers exactly what modern luxury should feel like: calm, considered and deeply connected to its landscape.
